Immediately After an Injury:

follow “PRICE” 

P – Protect the area

R – Rest the injured area

I – Ice    Always use ice in the first 72 hours after an injury

C – Compress to reduce swelling

E – Elevate above your heart, to reduce swelling

Avoid “HARM”   

H – Heat     Do NOT use heat in the first 72 hours after an injury

A – Alcohol  Avoid alcohol after an injury until you are sure it does not need surgery

R – Run  Do NOT run on a recently injured lower extremity

M – Massage   Avoid massaging the area for the first 72 hours.  This can cause increased swelling to the area.
